Van hire customers warned about the new DVLA Changes

The DVLA are to scrap the counter paper part of your driver’s licence. Drivers looking to hire a van or a car from the 8th June will have to log on to the DVLA website to generate a special online code before being able to hire a van or car.

Customers wanting to hire a van after the 8th June will need to input their driving licence number and national insurance number into the DVLA website to generate a one-time password to allow the hire company to check your drivers licence for points and other motoring offences. Customers who forget to generate code can call the DVLA’s premium rate telephone number but these calls will cost around £5 a time!

Clare Denton-Magee, director of Shire Link Van Hire said “Most customers are unaware of the changes. The code is valid for 21 days, so at Shire Link Van Hire we’re telling all of our customer when they make a booking and reminding them by email before their hire commences. These changes could cause problems for holiday makers this summer or late van hire bookings. As well as their two proofs of address, we’re now advising all customers to also bring their national insurance number when collecting their van.

The changes come into effect from Monday  8th June. Shire Link Van has been established in Huddersfield since 1981 and offers a fleet of vans and trucks to hire to both personal and business customers.
